Lesotho Sani Mountain Lodge
This place is very secluded and a wonderful hot spot to
visit.
Unfortunately you will need to do border passport control to
visit from the SA side. Then to proceed up Sani pass a wonderful windy gravel
road which does not really need a 4x4 but for safety reasons should be done in
a decent 4x4 high vehicle. I would not attempt it in anything else, although
many have dome it in 2x4 double cabs.
During winter higher up the roads become
extremely icy and slippery. It is the border police prerogative to allow
vehicles they don't see fit not to attempt the pass. They do this for your own
safety and fighting with them will get you no where.
The lodge is spectacular and very accommodating with breath
taking views. There isn't much to do except relax. Don't underestimate the
chill from the mountain breeze at this altitude even in summer it's a little
more than chilly.
The staff are fantastic and everything was reasonably priced. The rooms were cosy and well looked after with a fire place being lit every evening. Bathrooms were clean but no door for those who like a bit of privacy while sitting on the throne.
This place is a once in a life time destination, boasting the highest pub in Africa, Ask for a glass of their special brewed Glühwein you will not be disappointed.
